How To Go From Author To Book Publishing Coach
By Blondie L. Clayton

If you want to profit as an author
learn the basics well enough to teach others.

Type in the keyword “publishing” and how many titles will show up? I did and up came 87,904 titles related to publishing on Barnes and Noble. I scanned through 60 before I ended my search. How do you know which one will get you closer to your publishing goal? I didn’t know so many books had been written on the subject.

How many books do you have on your book shelf about writing, publishing and selling books? I have a few. So many books, written by so many experts, those who have the knowledge, know how and experience, looking to sell you on why you should buy their book to teach you what they know.

If you want to learn publishing, where do you start? The same place you started out in life. School. So if you are looking to publish, then it stands to reason, there is no school where you can be taught, except the school of hard knocks, trial and error. The next best thing then would be to buy a book on the subject. Is there some magic we are hoping will happen by just buying the book?

There is no success in buying a book. You have to read, digest and apply the information. What good is information if you are not going to use it? That is where most people come to a screeching halt. Believe it or not there are adults who don’t like to read, especially instructional information.

So how do you know which publishing book to buy? Is Dan Poynter’s book: Self-Publishing Manual: How to Write, Print and Sell Your Own Book the answer? Books on publishing are like text books, filled with instructional information, to be read and applied. Too often first time authors buy a book on publishing without a clue as to what they need to get started and complete their book project. It’s all about Putting Your Passion into Print (Get Your Book Published Successfully), with little or no thought to the details. You’re already there, finished.

Well, what should you look for when you embark upon something new? On entering pre-k did they give you a book to read, or start off teaching you the basics of all language (letters), sound and numbers. Now you know where to start.

I tried to locate a publishing manual that would be a guide to a newbie. I typed in key words “publishing manual” and sixty books later I found none.

It is safe to say even in being successful as a published author, it starts with the basics: What is a publisher? What is the difference between the types available? How do you approach them? How do you get to them? You may find the step-by-step approach outlined in You Write You Publish a plus (www.clcwlifechangers.com).

Is there one book that will tell you everything you need to know so you don’t have to read another book? No, you will always need to read another book, if you want to do it yourself. Do it yourself doesn’t mean you have to know everything to do it yourself.

Savvy writers are hiring the services of a Book Publishing Coach, people who have read the information they didn’t want to read and applying it on behalf of others. These folks hire the assistance of a Book Publishing Coach, a person who makes a living teaching how to publish, or publishing for other people.

A Book Publishing Coach is an asset to an aspiring author. These are folks who have mastered the basics and know enough to get you into the marketplace.

Doctors don’t make the medicine; they prescribe what has already been researched by specialist. A Book Publishing Coach can save you time, money and lessen your mistakes. There is no need to read another book on publishing if you hire the services of a Book Publishing Coach. A good Book Publishing Coach knows how to take your book from the idea to the marketplace. The right Book Publishing Coach knows how to position you with a web site, domain names, the tax advantages of a business, media positioning, 30-second promo, lessens your expenses, provides speaker training. Why? Because they can do for you what they have done for themselves. Your choice in a Book Publishing Coach should be someone who has had experience on both sides of publishing: self-publish and traditional publishing (Write, Publish and Sell Books tool kit at www.clcwlifechangers.com). You can cut to the chase with A Book Publishing Coach.

If you have made up your mind to succeed as an author, then the services of a Book Publishing Coach would be the best choice. The advantage to using a Book Publishing Coach is their experience provides the confidence you need to succeed, knowing you are being led instead of stumbling along in the dark, hoping to have a clear path.
